Welcome to the Australian Dance Performance Institute PL (ADPI), a school that has produced many young talented dancers. Since 1991, under the name of Brisbane Dance Centre (BDC) , we have offered dance tuition for all ages. In 2002 the school changed its name to reflect the growing need for a more professional dance education.

Consideration for Scholarships is given to talented, committed and gifted students who enter their second year of the course.   If scholarships are awarded the amount is calculated on the individual need the student.

The Australian Dance Performance Institute is a full-time tertiary institution offering Nationally recognised / accredited performing arts courses and musical theatre for Year 10-12 school leavers and Adults. These courses offer full-time education in classical / contemporary and in musical theatre.

There are also part-time or casual classes available for junior and senior school and for adults. Six days a week we offer ballet, contemporary, jazz and tap dance.

Charla Tuncdoruk from the Queensland College of Dance Excellence who was the recipient of the ATOD/ADPI Scholarship commenced studies in January, 2009.

Rhys Humphreys (2008) Semi Finalist at the Prix de Lausanne, Switzerland gained offers to international contemporary and classical schools.  During his trip to the Prix he did classes with the Bejart Contemporary School, Akademie des Tanz, Mannheim and Singapore Dance Theatre.  He also gained a 2 OP on completion of the Advanced Diploma of Art (Dance Performance)  in 2008 at ADPI.

Ricelle Hoogervorst (2008) gained a contract for Bollywood Movies at shows in India commencing February, 2009

Mitchell McCrone (2007) gained a contract with Disney, Tokyo as a dancer commencing February 2009

January, 2009

This year we welcome students from 16 different High School and Private Colleges who join us for our Certificate III in Dance.   They will attend ADPI for one day per week and all units successfully achieved will be credited to their LUI Bank at QSA towards their QCE. Our fulltime students studying an Advanced Diploma of Art (Dance Performance/Musical Theatre) who are between 15 and 17years of age will also have every unit successfully completed credited to their Lui Bank as well.  They and the older students also on completion of the course can submitted their Statement of Results to QTAC for a Ranking and OP Equivalent or OP up-Grade.

December, 2008

Coorparoo Secondary College - Our fulltime students who now wish to continue with Years 11 and 12 English and Maths now have the wonderful opportunity of attending this college to work for these subjects over one year.  Cost is $80 Registration and $100 per subject per year which includes books.  Fees are payable to the College

Leisel McCormac (Present) Supreme Pass for the CSTD Theatrical Shield and Gold Cross and awarded the Gwen Mackey Trophy for the highest mark received in Queensland for the Gold Cross.  Her sister, Rebecca (ADPI 2002/2003) and now working in New York choreographed all Leisel's dances.  Leisel sat these examinations through the Ritz Studios.

Had a visit from Jane Hinton (2006) who was leaving for America to take up her third contract with Carnival Cruise Lines. Congratulations Jane!!

Brisbane Dance Centre our afternoon school held their annual concert at the Schonell Theatre on Saturday 15th November.  Congratulations to all involved for producing a beautiful and most professional performance.

October 2008

Auditions for the Advanced Diploma of Art (Dance Performance/Musical Theatre) and our part time Certificate III in Dance will be held on Sunday 19th October at ADPI studios.  The Certificate III is for students still at High School who wish to have one full day at ADPI where on successful completion of the qualification can gain up to 8 credit points towards their QCE (Qld Certificate of Education)

Present students in the Musical Theatre Stream by winning the Musical Theatre Section for Open Age at the Sydney Eisteddfod were invited back to perform at the Night of Champions on 21st September.  The students busked at South Bank and held a chocolate drive to help fund their trip.

Jarrad Cramp (Present) after 1 week with the English National Ballet School in London was chosen to tour with the English Ballet Company until 14th December, 2008.

Kyle Page now a member of DanceNorth for the past 4 years will be performing in their production of Underground at the Brisbane Powerhouse 8th - 11th October.

Past students Jasmine Kimber and Emma Barrett have emailed through their recent successes.  Jasmine is dancing in India in Bollywood Movies and Emma has gained a contract with Moulin Rouge commencing this month.  Alyce Hill (present) now in Korea has settled in and enjoying her life in dance immensely.  Stephen Hodge and Katie Whitchurch have returned to Disney, Tokyo Stephen dancing many roles in various shows and Katie as an aerial acrobat.  Leanne (Anni) Saunders returning to Universal, Osaka for her second contract.

 

 

August - September, 2008

Having won the Open Musical Theatre Section at the Sydney Eisteddfod in July 2008, our team will return to the Science Theatre in Sydney on Sunday 21st August to compete in the Night of Champions.

Jarrad Cramp (Present) chosen for the Finals of the RAD Genee Medals in Toronto in August.  He then flew to London, where he started on 9th September at the English National Ballet School Final year on Scholarship.

At the Universal Studios, Osaka auditions 8/9/09, James Smart, Georgina Spencer, Emily Langridge and Sharna Eyley were successful in completing all round and are in the final consideration for contracts.  Alyce Hill left on 5/9/09 for Korea to take up a contract at the Sheraton Grande Walkerhill Casino in Seoul.  She joins Christiann Bettridge whom commenced there on 1/8/08.

Great Brinsley (2007) gained a contract with Brutal Ballet a new Brisbane based dance company which will tour nationally and then internationally.  Chantelle Mullin gained her first contract with Carnival Cruise Lines.  Chantelle Humphreys returns to Carnival Cruise Lines for her second contract.  Her sip "Liberty" will after 6 months travel to European ports.

Our ADPI students achieved tremendously well at the August Gold Coast Eisteddfods.  They won the Open Contemporary, Jazz, Hip hop, Traditional Tap, Song & Tap, Musical Theatre and were second in Open Jazz, Contemporary, Cabaret, Song & Dance and Third in Musical Theatre.

Our Junior School (BDC) gained the Aggregate Trophy for Classical Ballet  Under 8's, 12's and 15's.  They danced beautifully and were an immense credit to BDC/ADPI and Janine McGrath.

 

June - July, 2008

Sydney Eisteddfod.  Competition to be held 4th to 6th July for Groups.  65 students from ADPI and 4 students from BDC have headed to Sydney for this competition to be held at the Science Theatre.

Christiaan Bettridge (Present) has accepted a contract as a dancer in Korea and will commence there in August, 2008

Rhys Humphreys and Jarrad Cramp have received Distinctions for their Advanced 2 examination held in Sydney and have qualified for and will join Grace Willett at the Genee Medals in Toronto, August, 2008

March - May 2008

In the Brisbane Repertoire, Rhys Humphreys was awarded Runner-Up and Jarrad Cramp Highly Commended.

Brisbane Eisteddfod.  Both ADPI and BDC entered for this competition and again achieved extremely well.  They won the jack Chambers Award for winning the Open Jazz Section and the Adjudicators Award for their Song and Tap "Show People".  BDC were placed in all groups items entered and ADPI received many firsts and some seconds and thirds.

Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.  Our Junior School. the Brisbane Dance Centre (BDC) entered their first eisteddfod this year under the direction of Janine McGrath, Artistic Director of the Brisbane Youth Ballet Company.  All students gained great knowledge and experience and were awarded many first places.  Lucas Brinin (12) was awarded the trophy for the Most Promising Male Dancer and Vail Bromberger the overall trophy for the most promising Female Classical Dancer.

September 2007

Grace Willett (16) was awarded Solo Seal, the most prestigious examination award of the Royal Academy of Dance.  Grace also won the Senior Scholarship at the RAD South East Qld Panel awards and also gained the Audience Award.  In the same competition, Isabella Isordi (12) was awarded the Encouragement prize for the Intermediate Section and Lucas Brinin (12) was a Finalist in the Junior Section.

Isabella Elordi (12) auditioned successfully for the third year of the Australian Ballet School's Associate Program.

Jarrad Cramp (17) was chosen as a Finalist in the Society of Art Dance (SODA) awards in Sydney.

The Albion full-time students were invited to sing the Australian Anthem and perform a group piece "Saturday Night" at the Queensland Young Achiever Awards on 22nd September.  They were received tremendously well by the large gathering present.  Rudy Hawkes of the Australian Ballet Company who was coached by Miss Eversen during his final year before being accepted into the Australian Ballet School was awarded First prize in the Arts Category.

The RAD Grade Examination students achieved very well in their recent examinations and Lara Andrews was our top achiever.  Congratulations to all students of their success.

The RAD held their first session of Vocational examinations at our Gold Coast campus from 6th to 18th September.  The premises suited these examinations very well and appeared to be enjoyed by all who were involved.  We also had a large number of students there and also at Albion who sat for their examinations.

At the Gold Coast Eisteddfod both campuses acquitted themselves extremely well with the Gold Coast campus gaining their first awards.  The Brisbane campus had many winning groups.

August 2007

Harold Collins MBE is at present mounting a ballet for a university in Taiwan and Barbara Eversen leaves shortly for China to take up an invitation by the Dance Department at the Wuhan University  to visit and exchange teaching methodology.  During this trip, she will also stop off in Suzhou to see Sinasi Alak and view him in Company classes and rehearsals.

RAD Vocational students are preparing for their up and coming examinations both in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.  For the first time, the RAD is holding the Vocational examinations at the Gold Coast and using the ADPI premises there.  Our RAD Grade students are also preparing for their examinations on 23rd August.  We wish all students well and hope they enjoy the experience.

The Gold Coast Campus full-timers have welcomed new Faculty for second Semester with Renee Emery taking over the Acting, Lisa-Marie Grosskopf singing and Michael Edge Hip Hop.  Helena Wilson-Moore conducted a jazz workshop and Jacqui Devereux a Musical Theatre one.

Rehearsals are well underway for two Musical Theatre Nights where the students perform in a theatre and are assessed on these performances.  The Brisbane night is at the Judith Wright Centre, Fortitude Valley on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th October and the Gold Coast night will be at the Marymount High School.  The date for this is to be confirmed.

What an exciting night it was on Sunday 30th July at the Sydney Opera House.  Our Jazz Group competed in the finals and danced exceptionally.  It was great experience and has motivated the students so well.

July, 2007

Jazz Open Group from the Brisbane Campus competed in the McDonald Performing Art Challenge in Sydney on 30th June and was chosen as one of the 6 groups to compete in the finals at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday 29th July, 2007.  Previously this group along with the Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Song and Dance, Song and Tap, Cabaret and Hip Hop Groups had won their Open Sections at the Brisbane Eisteddfod in May.

At the recent McDonald Performing Arts Challenge in Sydney our Groups gained a Second in Tap, Third in Song and Dance, Highly Commended in Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary and Musical Theatre.

The Gold Coast Campus competed in their first eisteddfods recently and acquitted themselves very well.  They showed great enthusiasm and commitment and look forward to being able to gain more experience at the upcoming Gold Coast eisteddfod.

Grace Willett who recently sat her Advanced 2 RAD examination was awarded 94%.  Misa Kato was awarded 90% for her Intermediate examination also.

Grace Stewart who gained her Certificate IV of Art (Musical Theatre) at the end of 2006 has gained a contract for the Musical Spamalot and starts rehearsals in Melbourne in October.

Katie Whitchurch who is currently studying for her Advanced Diploma of Art (Dance Performance) has gained a contract with Disney, Tokyo (Little Mermaid) and will commence there in August 2007.

Mitchell McCrone and Eli Crawford students presently studying for their Advanced Diploma of Art (Musical Theatre) have been offered contacts for the Royal Caribbean Cruises and will commence in November and December.

Chantelle Mullin presently studying for the Advanced Diploma of Art (Musical Theatre) has been awarded a two week scholarship to the USA.

Sinasi Alak who graduated with his Advanced Diploma of Art (Dance Performance) in 2005 returned from one year with the Hamburg Ballett Schule and successfully auditioned for the Voyagers Company based in China.  He commenced there in June 2007.

Our Junior Elite Performance Stream danced at the In-House Performance on Saturday 23rd June performing "Papillion" choreographed by Harold Collins MBE.   Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed their performance.

Over the next few months four scholarship winners from the Alana Haines competition will be visiting ADPI Brisbane Campus for two weeks to take classes with the full-time students.  These students are from the Paula Hunt School in Wellington and the Mt Eden Ballet School in Auckland.

 

February, 2007

Eli Crawford (Fish Seller),  Mitchell McCrone (Sailor), Sam Bonner (Beggar), Grace Willett (Flower Seller), Sky Bailey (Grand Lady) and Rebecca Lamb (Grand Lady) were chosen to be extras in the Australian ballet's "Don Quixote" in Brisbane at QPAC till Tuesday 27th February.

The Gold Coast campus will OPEN at its permanent home at 42 Junction Road, BURLEIGH HEADS on 4th March, 2007.  Enquiries are now welcome for the afternoon school program where RAD ballet, CSTD Tap and Theatrical, Hip Hop, OPen Jazz, Open Tap, Mummy amd Me and Adult classes will be offered.

Certificate III in Dance - This qualification will be offered and delivered part time to students wishing to gain credits towards their Year 12 Qualification.  Dance students will be able to remain with their own teachers and continue their studies in classical ballet, jazz and contemporary.  They will be required to attend ADPI for 2 Assessments of each practical unit and to gain the knowledge for the academic units.

Jasmine Kimber (Graduate 2006) has gained a contract on Carnival Cruises in America.

Francine Cain (Graduate 2006) flew to Perth to commence studies at WAAPA in the Musical Theatre course.

January 2007

After a very successful RAD Vocational Summer School, we recommenced our Advanced Diploma courses on Monday 22nd January welcoming students from Japan, New Zealand, Tasmania, Townsville, Central Queensland, New South Wales and Brisbane. 

The New campus at the Gold Coast started on Monday 29th January at interim facilities at House of Dance, Southport

October/November 2006

Present student Bradley Inness and past students Angelique Cassimatis (hear her amazing voice), Kyle Moyle, Shay Reeves, Pascal Carruthers and Eddy Borg join with other members of, LUCID DANCE THEATRE (Choreographer Louise Deleur) to present ALL MY LOVE.

Musical Theatre stream's preparations are in full swing for the Musical Theatre Showcase to be held at the Judith Wright Centre on Tuesday 5th December at 7.30pm.  Classical/Contemporary and Musical Theatre stream are also rehearsing for their Graduation Performance on Sunday 10th December at 7.30pm at QUT Theatre, Garden's Point, George Street, Brisbane.

The afternoon school's Dance 2006 will be held on Saturday 9th December (6.30pm) and Sunday 10th December (2.00pm) also at  the QUT Theatre Garden's Point, George Street, Brisbane.

14th to 18th August, 2006

Our RAD Grade Examinations were held and we welcomed Miss Robyn Hick who examined the children and thank Mrs Val Nugent who played so well for them once again.

Sally-Jane Gaynor dropped in to do some classes.  Sally is home on holidays and will return to commence into 3rd year level (her 2nd year) at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim.

Renee Woods recently returned from teaching in  Kobe, Japan and Justine Press visited for their second tutorial of  their RAD Teaching Conversion examination to be conducted in November.  Renee was seen twirling hair and helping the Grade candidates look beautiful for their examination as she talked about her experience teaching in a foreign language and country.

Sunday 30th July, 2006

Rhys Humphreys performed extremely well as one of the eight finalists from a field of 135 in the McDonald Ballet Scholarships at the Opera House in Sydney.  Rhys was chosen on Sunday 23rd July after competing in 2 classes, classical repertoire solo and contemporary solo.  It was a great birthday present as he turned 16 the next day.  He also was awarded 96% for his RAD Advanced 1 examination in May.

The Jazz Open Group (Michael Jackson Remix choreographed by Helena Moore and Michael Edge) also performed with great energy, technique and commitment in the Finals of the Jazz Groups at the Opera House.  They were one of the six Finalists from a field of 47.

Heath Cundy at the same time headed for Melbourne to attend the finals of the Australian Ballet School auditions for the 2007 intake.  Heath had previously been a quarter finalist in the McDonald Ballet Scholarships.

Redcliffe Eisteddfod - June 2006

Our Open Groups won all sections in which they competed taking out the Aggregate Trophy, The Contemporary Award and the Best Jazz Group as well.

Brisbane Arts in Focus - May 2006

All groups performed extremely well winning the best open jazz group, the classical open and cabaret open.  Second in open contemporary, novelty, musical theatre and third in tap and also our second group gained third in the classical section.

Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark - May/June 2006

Miss Eversen visited the above countries examining both Vocational Graded and Graded examinations in the latter three and visiting Sinasi Alak in Hamburg.  She was very fortunate to see the Hamburg Ballet Company perform Romeo and Juliet in which former student Joseph Aitken danced extremely well.

Sunday 9th April, 2006

Sinasi Alak was awarded the lady Mollie Askin Ballet Travelling Scholarship of $15,000.00 in March 2006.  This award is given to an Australian student who shows great potential in Ballet. 

Sinasi and Miss Eversen travelled to Europe in January 2006 as Sinasi had been invited to audition for the Hamburg and John Cranko Schools in Germany.  They went firstly to Hamburg where Sinasi was offered a position in the Balletschule des Hamburg Ballett and so Sinasi stayed in Hamburg and commenced his studies on 23rd January.

Miss Eversen then went to Mannheim to visit Sally-Jane Gaynor who is in the Akademie des Tanzes and then onto Switzerland to meet up with Talia Fowler whom she had coached and prepared for the Prix de Lausanne.  Talia danced extremely well and became a semi finalist impressing all especially with her interpretation of her solo from Grand Pas Classique.

Angelique Cassimatis will be leaving in May for a tour of South East Asia to perform in a production through Gray Boy Agencies.

Jessica Shields and Steven Hodge left in March to take up their contracts at Disney in Tokyo, Japan.

Kyle Page gained a full contract with Dance North in Townsville.

The Advanced Diploma of Art (Dance/Dance Performance) students in 2006 have come from far and wide with international students Ruben Montoya from Columbia, Yu Uchibori from Japan, Candy Ng from Malaysia and Carrieann Marriott from the UK.

Renee Woods has gone to Kobe, Japan for three months to teach for Kafuyu Shintani.  Lucky Renee is enjoying the Cherry Blossom season at present.

Miss Eversen leaves shortly for a RAD Dual tour examining in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.  She will visit Hamburg for two days to see how Sinasi is fairing.  By all accounts, he has settled in well, enjoying his life there, living in an attic of an apartment and been given a lot of roles in the forthcoming school production at the Hamburg Opera House.  We welcome Miss Carla McGree back to take over Miss Eversen's classes along with Mr. Harold Collins in the Junior School and Ms Janece Graham who will come into the Full Time school during this period.

Sinasi Alak was chosen the winner of the Senior Section and awarded $5,000.00 by adjudicators Jodie Rose and Robert Olup at the Society of Dance Arts (SODA) competition run from Thursday 15th to Sunday 18th September in Sydney.  At the finals, Sinasi danced his classical variation, Le Corsair and a contemporary solo, the Pole-Ka choreographed by Bill Pengelly.
